Urgent Manhunt for Father Accused in Daughters’ Murders
Investigation Underway Following Tragic Discovery
Authorities in Washington state are intensifying their search for Travis Decker, a 32-year-old man implicated in the gruesome murders of his three daughters. The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that Decker may be on or near the Pacific Crest Trail, raising concerns for public safety.
Unthinkable Tragedy
On Monday, police discovered the lifeless bodies of 9-year-old Paityn Decker, 8-year-old Evelyn Decker, and 5-year-old Olivia Decker near the Rock Island Campground. Initial investigations suggest that Decker may have killed his daughters during a planned visitation before fleeing the scene.
Evidence found at the location has raised alarm: the girls were discovered approximately 75 to 100 yards down an embankment, each reportedly suffocated and found with zip ties around their wrists and plastic bags over their heads. A lawyer representing their mother, Whitney Decker, described her ex-husband as “an engaged father,” although noted that his mental health had imposed limitations on his parenting.
A Person of Concern
Travis Decker’s military background, including training in mountain survival skills, complicates the ongoing search efforts. According to Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison, he possesses the knowledge to remain hidden for extended periods, having previously gone off-grid for up to two and a half months.
Authorities have issued a warning to residents in the area near the Pacific Crest Trail, urging them to take precautions. They recommend locking doors, keeping outdoor lights on at night, and remaining vigilant in their surroundings.
Reward Offered for Information
In a bid to expedite Decker’s capture, the U.S. Marshals Service has announced a reward of up to $20,000 for any information leading to his arrest. Residents are encouraged to contact the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 509-667-6845 or submit leads online.
