ICE Raids in Los Angeles Lead to Arrests of Convicted Criminals

LOS ANGELES, CA – In a recent operation, nearly 45 individuals have been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles, uncovering a mix of undocumented migrants, including those with prior convictions for serious offenses such as sexual abuse and drug trafficking.

    Details of the Operation

On Friday, ICE agents conducted raids across various locations, including two Home Depot stores, a business in the fashion district, and a local doughnut shop. This extensive enforcement action has sparked concern and unrest in the community, culminating in riots over the weekend.

Among those apprehended, notable cases include:

    • Rolando Veneracion-Enriquez, a 55-year-old from the Philippines, with a criminal history that includes a lengthy prison sentence for sexual assault and burglary in Canada.
    • Jose Gregorio Medranda Ortiz, 42, from Ecuador, previously sentenced to over 11 years for drug trafficking offenses.

    Local Reactions

The raids have drawn sharp criticism from local leaders, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom. Mayor Bass condemned the federal action, stating it "sows terror in our communities" and disrupts the established principles of safety. Gov. Newsom also criticized President Trump’s call for the National Guard to restore order during the ensuing chaos, describing it as "purposefully inflammatory."

    Profiles of the Arrested

Among the arrested individuals, several have criminal backgrounds:

    • Armando Ordaz, 44, an alleged gang member of Bratz 13, has been convicted of sexual battery and theft-related offenses.
    • Victor Mendoza-Aguilar, 32, has a string of convictions for unlawful possession and assault, alongside a history of gang affiliation with the Villa Boys.

    Continued Enforcement and Community Impact

ICE continues to prioritize the removal of unlawful migrants with criminal records, reinforcing its mission to enhance public safety. The sweeping operation, while aimed at removing individuals deemed a threat, raises pressing questions about community safety and the balance of local and federal law enforcement strategies.

As the situation develops, community members and local officials remain concerned about the long-term implications of these raids on public trust and safety in Los Angeles.
