Two Men Charged in Attempted Robbery and Assault of 71-Year-Old Woman
FISHERS, Ind. – In a harrowing incident that took place on June 12, two men have been charged with multiple felonies following an alleged armed robbery and attempted sexual assault of a 71-year-old woman in her own home. The Fishers Police Department (FPD) reported that the victim courageously fought back during the terrifying encounter.
Incident Details
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on that fateful morning, the victim contacted the police after two masked assailants invaded her home in the 16000 block of Brookmere Avenue. According to police reports, she awoke to find the suspects looming over her. In a moment of bravery, despite being attacked, the woman managed to grab the sweatshirt strings of one assailant while using her legs to restrain the other.
During the struggle, she suffered a significant injury to her finger that required stitches; however, she did not sustain any other physical harm. The woman displayed remarkable determination by chasing the suspects from her home while shouting threats.
Subsequent investigations revealed that her purse was missing, and about an hour later, she received a notification regarding an attempted charged to her credit card at a nearby Meijer store in Cumberland, Indiana, which had been declined.
Arrests Made
FPD detectives wasted no time following up on the case. They identified and apprehended two suspects: Elijah Oates, 24, and Daquez Stockdale, 25. This development came after connecting the getaway vehicle, described by the victim as a white sedan. Security footage from a neighbor corroborated this detail, revealing a silver Chevrolet Sonic linked to Oates.
Upon questioning, Oates implicated Stockdale as the second assailant. Stockdale was arrested the next morning.
