Teen Shot and Killed After Altercation in Reserve, Louisiana

Community Mourns Loss of Recent Graduate

A tragic incident unfolded Thursday night in Reserve, Louisiana, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Tylik Jackson, a recent graduate of East St. John High School. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that Jackson was shot following a fistfight that escalated on Northwest Third Street around 8 p.m.

    Details of the Incident

Authorities were alerted to gunfire in the area and discovered Jackson on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Surveillance footage showed a fight occurring shortly before the shooting, although the other individual involved remains unidentified.

Sheriff Mike Tregre expressed his concerns regarding the prevalence of violence among young people, stating, “Teenagers these days are making permanent life decisions with weapons to settle disagreements. Other than prayers… not sure what else can be done in government or as a community.”

    A Light Lost

Principal DeShanna Bause of East St. John High School paid tribute to Jackson, describing him as "a bright light in our Wildcat community." She highlighted his radiant smile and kind-hearted nature, asserting that his presence deeply impacted fellow students and staff alike. In a heartfelt message posted on the school’s Facebook page, Bause emphasized that Jackson’s recent graduation was a symbol of his determination and love for his family.

“Tylik left an unforgettable mark, and his memory will forever be cherished,” Bause remarked.

    Ongoing Investigation

As the investigation continues, authorities have yet to identify a suspect. The sheriff’s office is actively seeking information from the public. Those with any details related to the case can contact the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS hotline at 985-359-TIPS (8477) or reach out to Lt. Carolina Pineda of the Criminal Investigations Division at 504-494-3840.

Additionally, tips can be submitted online at the sheriff’s official website, and anonymous callers can reach Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-7867, with the possibility of receiving a $2,500 reward for information leading to an indictment.

    Call for Community Support

As the community grapples with this senseless act of violence, calls for unity and support are echoing throughout Reserve. The tragic loss of Tylik Jackson serves as a grim reminder of the need for dialogue and intervention in addressing youth violence in the area.
