Texas Teen Charged with First-Degree Murder in High School Stabbing

Frisco, TX—A tragic incident at a high school track meet has resulted in a serious legal development as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony faces a first-degree murder charge for the fatal stabbing of fellow student Austin Metcalf. The shocking events unfolded on April 2 during the University Interscholastic League’s District 11-5A championship, where an argument over seating escalated to violence.

    Grand Jury Indictment

On Tuesday, a Collin County grand jury formally indicted Anthony after weeks of evidence presentation by the prosecuting team. District Attorney Greg Willis expressed his determination to bring justice to the victim. "Today, I summarized that evidence, and I asked the grand jury to return a first-degree murder indictment against Karmelo Anthony—and they did," Willis stated in a press conference.

The indictment marks a significant escalation in the case, raising concerns among the local community about youth violence and accountability.

    Community Outrage and Legal Aftermath

The incident has stirred considerable outrage, particularly after Anthony was released on a $250,000 bond, reduced from an initial $1 million based on claims of financial hardship. Reports indicate that he has since been living in a lavish $900,000 home in a gated community in Frisco, Texas, where rent is approximately $3,500 per month. Following the incident, he reportedly purchased a new car, actions that have alarmed neighbors and drawn further scrutiny.

In a defensive rebuttal, Anthony’s family asserts that he acted in self-defense and has launched a fundraiser on GiveSendGo.com that has already raised over $530,000 for his legal expenses. "The narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful," they stated on the fundraising page.

    Remembering Austin Metcalf

Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, was remembered fondly within his community. His loss has sparked calls for justice and a renewed conversation about youth violence. Following the indictment, Metcalf’s family mourns the tragic loss of a promising young life.

    Potential Sentencing

Should Karmelo Anthony be convicted, he could face life in prison. Legal representatives have expressed optimism about the case, maintaining that the evidence will demonstrate their client’s claim of self-defense. “We are confident that when all the facts are presented, the jury will reach the right conclusion and justice will be done,” said Anthony’s attorney, Mike Howard.

The case is ongoing, and updates will follow as new information becomes available.
