SWAT Team Arrests Suspect in Stone County Shooting Incident

STORY DEVELOPING: A standoff in Stone County, Mississippi, culminated in the arrest of Orlando Breland following a tragic shooting incident that left one individual dead. The Stone County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported on Saturday that authorities responded to the scene late Friday night after receiving calls about gunfire in the area.

    Incident Overview

Upon arriving at a residence along Thelma Andrews Road and East Avery Road, deputies discovered a male victim who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, the victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators quickly identified Breland as the primary suspect, tracing him to a nearby home where he was reportedly firing a weapon into the air. Law enforcement promptly established a perimeter around Breland’s residence to prevent further escalation.

    SWAT Response and Arrest

In a coordinated response, SWAT teams from the Biloxi Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene. After several hours of negotiation and observation, witnesses saw smoke billowing from within Breland’s home. Authorities suspect he may have ignited a fire using a stove before attempting to flee out the back door.

He was apprehended shortly thereafter without further incident.

    Charges and Community Impact

Breland is now facing charges of first-degree murder and is currently held at the Stone County Regional Correctional Facility. Officials have indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation remains active.

“While this incident is tragic, we are grateful for the quick action of our law enforcement partners,” said a spokesperson for the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.

    Additional Support and Contact Information

The response to this situation involved multiple agencies, including the Wiggins Fire Department, Wiggins Police Department, D’Iberville Police Department, Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Community members who might have information regarding the incident are encouraged to contact the Stone County Sheriff’s Office at 601-928-3191, or to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
