    Multiple Assaults Reported in Somerville: Police Investigate Series of Incidents

    Incidents Overview

    In a concerning series of assaults reported in the city, Somerville police have responded to multiple incidents in recent days, raising alarms within the community. Officers were dispatched to various locations to address these reports, the first of which occurred on June 11.

    Bench Assault at Statue Park

    On June 11 at approximately 2:06 p.m., police were called to Statue Park following an assault. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who recounted being unexpectedly punched in the face while he sat on a bench. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, with no suspects reported at this time. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

    Mace Incident on Perkins Street

    Just days later, on June 16 at around 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a distress call on Perkins Street. The victim, walking home, disclosed that he was sprayed with mace by an acquaintance. Authorities are currently looking into the relationship between the victim and the assailant, encouraging further witness testimonies to clarify the event.

    Road Rage Escalation on Hudson Street

    Further escalating concerns, another incident on June 16 at 9:41 a.m. involved a reported road rage confrontation on Hudson Street. The victim stated he became embroiled in a traffic altercation which culminated in the assailant physically attacking him. Witnesses say the situation worsened when the attacker attempted to drive away with the victim clinging to his vehicle. As a result, the victim sustained injuries to his leg and neck. Detectives have already identified the male suspect involved in this incident.

    Other Crime Statistics

    In addition to these assaults, the local law enforcement has been dealing with a spate of other crimes in Somerville, which includes:

    • Five bike thefts
    • One case of vandalism
    • Five car break-ins
    • One package theft
    • Two instances of motor vehicle vandalism
    • Two motor vehicle thefts

    Community Response and Safety Measures

    As police work diligently to investigate these incidents, community leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and secure their belongings to combat the rise in thefts.
