Long Island Teen Indicted for Sexual Abuse of 11-Year-Old Boys
Suspect Misled Victims Through Social Media
A Long Island teenager has been indicted on multiple charges, including rape, for allegedly sexually abusing two 11-year-old boys he initially befriended through Snapchat. Bradley Schioppa, 18, was accused of leading the minors to believe he was also their age after joining their Snapchat group earlier this year.
Abuse Framed as Pranks
According to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney, Schioppa engaged in inappropriate behavior with the boys, including driving them around, providing snacks, and assisting them with pranks. However, the situation escalated when he sexually assaulted one boy in a park bathroom and the other in a drugstore bathroom. Reports indicate that Schioppa framed the acts as a "prank or a dare" and promised the boys payments for their participation.
The abuse came to light in May when the mother of one victim discovered concerning messages between her son and Schioppa, prompting her to inquire about the nature of their relationship.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Schioppa was arrested on May 21 and subsequently indicted. He is facing three counts of rape, two counts of sexual abuse, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. "This defendant is accused of committing horrific acts against two innocent children,” stated District Attorney Tierney. “Protecting our most vulnerable residents, especially children, remains my highest priority. We will pursue this case with the full force of the law to deliver the justice these children deserve."
In a continuing legal process, Schioppa is currently held on a cash bond set at $450,000, a $900,000 bond, or a $4.5 million partially secured bond. He is due back in court on July 8.
