Led by Angular Ventures and joined by Luminar Ventures, this investment aims to bolster Motorica’s proprietary platform, emphasizing rapid development in character animations that could redefine gameplay experiences.

    A Leap in Animation Efficiency

    Motorica’s innovative technology has already found a place within live production environments of major game studios. Remarkably, early users of the platform report a staggering 99% reduction in animation time. This improvement means achieving workflows that can complete animations 200 times faster than traditional methods, such as the cumbersome motion-capture-to-gameplay transition.

    The platform boasts seamless compatibility with popular tools including Unreal Engine, Maya, and Blender, and it supports advanced techniques like motion matching. This capability allows for realistic animations even in complex gameplay, showcasing a leap in real-time character behavior that promises to elevate the player experience.

    Fostering Creativity Over Automation

    CEO Willem Demmers emphasizes that Motorica is not intended to supplant human creativity but to alleviate the monotonous aspects of animation. Traditionally, animators expend a staggering 70% of their time on technical tasks, leaving just 30% for actual creative endeavors. Motorica aims to flip this equation, automating routine tasks and enabling artists to focus on storytelling and emotional depth, ultimately enhancing the quality of gaming narratives.

    Animator Maxi Keller, known for his work on titles like The Last of Us: Part II, notes that Motorica surpasses traditional motion capture, offering precise control over character dynamics, including acceleration and speed.

    Angular Ventures partner David Peterson highlights that Motorica’s implications extend beyond gaming. The foundational technology has the potential to reshape various sectors, from robotics to virtual worlds. Their deep research lineage, combined with industry commitments, sets Motorica up as a pioneering force in motion synthesis.

    Founded by innovators Gustav Henter and Simon Alexanderson in 2019, Motorica stems from groundbreaking research that produced the world’s first deep generative model for motion synthesis. The company’s extensive proprietary motion dataset and dedicated motion capture studio underscores its commitment to AAA-quality animation on a scalable level.

    Motorica’s roadmap includes:
