Evansville Man Acquitted in Cold Case Murder Trial

    Verdict Reached After Lengthy Proceedings

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — In a surprising turn of events, a jury has found Bobby Handegard not guilty in connection with the murder of local DJ Shane Breedlove, a case that has remained unresolved for nearly a decade. The verdict was delivered on Friday after a trial that began on Monday, effectively concluding Handegard’s legal battle and liberating him from custody.

    Background of the Case

The murder of Shane Breedlove on July 19, 2015, shocked the Evansville community. Breedlove, known for his work as a DJ at local venues, was fatally shot while walking to a gig at KC’s Timeout Lounge, a popular local bar. Reports indicate that he was on the phone with a friend at the time he was targeted, killed near the intersection of Washington and Thompson avenues.

For nearly ten years, the case remained cold until authorities arrested Handegard, alleging his involvement in the incident.

    Community Response and Support

Handegard’s arrest earlier this month stirred significant public interest and prompted friends and family members to rally for his innocence. Prior to the trial, supporters organized protests, voicing their belief that he was wrongly accused.

After the jury delivered their not-guilty verdict, Handegard was released, providing a sense of relief for his supporters and family.

    Looking Ahead

With this investigation unresolved once more, the community is left questioning the circumstances surrounding Breedlove’s tragic death. Evansville law enforcement has not ruled out the possibility of further inquiries into the case.

“We are grateful for the jury’s decision and hope to move forward,” Handegard stated after the verdict, expressing his relief and sorrow over the years lost in the legal process.

As the case against Handegard concluded, the search for justice for Shane Breedlove continues, leaving the community with lingering concerns about unsolved violence in the area.
