Notable Crimes Reported in Gillette, Wyoming
GILLETTE, WY – Law enforcement in Campbell County reported a series of incidents on June 5-6, revealing various public safety concerns including a traffic accident, a dog bite, theft, and drug-related offenses.
Traffic Accident on Brooks Avenue
On June 5, officers of the Gillette Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Brooks Avenue and 2nd Street. According to Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson, a 37-year-old man driving a silver Chevrolet pickup turned south onto Brooks Avenue when a Ford SUV collided with him. Notably, the SUV’s male driver was reportedly consuming cereal while driving and failed to stop at a red light. He was subsequently cited for multiple violations including running a red light, lack of proof of insurance, and a driver’s license infraction.
Dog Bite Incident Reported
Also on June 5, a dog bite incident prompted a police response at the Community Vet Clinic around 4:03 p.m. Officers discovered that a 7-year-old poodle had bitten a 26-year-old man who had put his hand in front of the dog’s face. Fortunately, no charges will be pursued against the dog’s owner, but the pet will undergo a home quarantine as a precaution.
Theft of Camper Tire Investigated
A theft was reported on the same day at Bluffs Ridge Drive. A 38-year-old man notified police that a spare tire valued at $120 was stolen from his camper between June 4 and June 6. The Gillette Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Drug Citations at Local Inn
On the evening of June 6, around 8:45 p.m., officers investigated a reported smell of marijuana at an inn located on Highway 14-16. Upon arrival, they discovered a 24-year-old man hiding behind a tree while smoking a marijuana cigarette. He received a citation for possession of a controlled substance.
DWI Arrest on Burma Avenue
Early the next morning, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office deputies apprehended a 25-year-old man for driving under the influence (DUI). The man was stopped for failing to signal at the intersection of Burma Avenue and 1st Street. After field sobriety tests indicated intoxication, deputies arrested him. A subsequent search revealed a small amount of marijuana, leading to charges of Driving While Under the Influence (DWUI) and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He also faces a citation for not using a turn signal.
