Long Island Teen Arrested for Alleged Rape of Two Boys Met on Snapchat
Smithtown, NY — An 18-year-old man from Bay Shore, identified as Bradley Schioppa, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse involving two 11-year-old boys he allegedly met through Snapchat. Authorities report that he approached the boys online, allegedly posing as someone closer to their age.
Details of the Allegations
Schioppa, using the username “paxonhotsg5,” joined a Snapchat conversation focused on young boys in the Smithtown area in April. Under the impression that he was their peer, the children did not question his presence in their chat. However, as the interactions continued, Schioppa began to appear in person, buying the boys snacks, driving them to various locations, and engaging in what he referred to as “prank games.”
The alleged abuse occurred during outings to locations including Robert A. Brady Park and a CVS store. During these visits, Schioppa reportedly framed the sexual assaults as dares or pranks, suggesting there would be payment involved.
Investigation and Arrest
The alarming situation came to light when a mother discovered disturbing messages between her son and Schioppa. Upon confronting her child, he disclosed the details of the alleged incidents. Subsequently, Suffolk County law enforcement initiated an investigation, leading to Schioppa’s arrest on May 21.
He has been charged with first-degree rape, second-degree sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child. At his arraignment, Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis set bail at $450,000 cash or a $900,000 bond.
Legal Consequences
If convicted on the most serious count, Schioppa faces a possible prison sentence of 25 years. District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney emphasized the severity of the allegations, stating, “This defendant is accused of committing horrific acts against two innocent children.” He added that protecting the community’s most vulnerable residents, particularly children, is a top priority.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, seeking to determine if there are additional victims connected to Schioppa. Parents are urged to contact the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office or the Special Victims Section with any pertinent information.
