Federal Arrests Mark Breakthrough in Historic Jewelry Heist
Seven Suspects Charged in $100 Million Brink’s Truck Robbery
In a dramatic turn of events, federal prosecutors have apprehended seven men believed to be behind the largest jewel heist in American history, dubbed the “Pacific Ocean’s Seven.” The suspects are charged with orchestrating the theft of a staggering $100 million worth of gold, diamonds, and luxury watches from a Brink’s armored truck in California in July 2022.
The Brazen Heist
The audacious robbery occurred while the Brink’s truck was en route to a jewelry showcase, having loaded its precious cargo from a recent gem show south of San Francisco. As the truck stopped at a rest area approximately 300 miles from its destination northeast of Los Angeles, the thieves ambushed the vehicle, seizing 73 bags filled with rare, unique gems, including high-value diamonds, emeralds, and rubies.
“This incident represents the largest jewelry heist in U.S. history,” a spokesperson for the Department of Justice stated. “The planning and execution of this crime reflect a high level of sophistication.”
Recoveries and Ongoing Investigations
FBI agents recently recovered some of the stolen items while executing a search warrant connected to the case, although further details on the extent of these recoveries have yet to be disclosed.
Several suspects are also linked to other criminal activities, which include previous truck heists targeting high-value shipments of electronics and luxury goods.
