Crime Stoppers Seek Public Assistance in Kohl’s Theft

CHAMPAIGN, IL — Law enforcement officials are appealing to the community for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a brazen theft at a local Kohl’s department store. The incident occurred on November 19, 2024, at approximately 9:08 a.m., when a man entered the store and made off with nearly $500 worth of merchandise.

    The Incident

According to the Champaign County Crime Stoppers, the suspect strategically selected several items before placing them into a duffel bag. Upon exiting the store, he left without paying, evading any efforts to stop him. The theft was captured on surveillance footage, which is now being analyzed to aid in his identification.

The suspect is described as a Black male, who was last seen wearing a navy-blue Adidas sweatsuit coupled with white sneakers. He reportedly fled the scene in a gray sedan believed to be a Hyundai Elantra.

    Call for Public Assistance

Champaign police are urging anyone with information about this incident or similar crimes in the county to come forward. Crime Stoppers has set up several ways for the public to provide tips. Individuals can reach out via phone at 217-373-8477, visit the website at 373tips.com, or use the free “P3 Tips” mobile app. All submissions to Crime Stoppers remain confidential, as tips are stripped of personally identifiable information and processed by a third-party service.

In an effort to encourage community involvement, Crime Stoppers emphasizes that tipsters can remain completely anonymous and receive a code to check for potential rewards. The organization offers up to $1,000 for information that leads to arrests in various crimes, with higher rewards available for tips leading to arrests in serious offenses:

    • $5,000 for tips leading to arrests in Champaign County homicides.
    • $2,500 for tips related to arrests in felonies involving firearms.

    Connecting with the Community

“Every piece of information is crucial in helping us ensure safety in our community,” said a spokesperson for Crime Stoppers. They encourage residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could help prevent future crimes.

As this story develops, updates will be provided. The community’s cooperation is vital in bringing the suspect to justice and safeguarding local businesses.
