Tragic Murder of 14-Year-Old Emily Pike: New Developments Unfold

Investigation into Disappearance and Subsequent Murder

The investigation into the tragic murder of 14-year-old Emily Pike has taken a grim turn as new details come to light about her struggles prior to her death. Emily’s dismembered remains were discovered in February along a dirt road off US 60 in Arizona, following her disappearance from a group home, Sacred Journey Inc., on January 27.

    Struggles at the Group Home

Recent body camera footage from local police provides insight into Emily’s distressing time at the group home. In a September 2023 encounter, she expressed her unhappiness, telling officers, “I hate it there,” and pleaded to live with her grandmother instead. The video illustrates a teenager desperate to escape her circumstances, crying as she told the officers, “I’m not going to go to that f–cking group home.”

According to reports, Emily had gone missing multiple times in January 2023, only to be returned to the facility or taken to a behavioral health center shortly thereafter. Her family, residing on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, has been left devastated by her loss.

    Circumstances Surrounding the Search

On the day of her disappearance, a staff member from the Sacred Journey group home reported that Emily was missing and acknowledged that this was not an unusual occurrence. In her conversation with the police, the staffer explained their search efforts, mentioning that Emily had previously escaped through a kicked-out window.

The subsequent autopsy revealed that Emily had suffered visible head and facial trauma. Pieces of her remains were found in large bags, but parts of her body, including her arms, remain unaccounted for, raising chilling questions about the circumstances surrounding her murder.

    Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement agencies, including the Mesa Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, have formed a task force to track down the three suspects identified in the case. However, as of now, no arrests have been made.

Emily’s mother, Steff Dosela, lamented, “She was just an innocent… she was a baby,” highlighting the heartache felt by those who knew her.

    Group Home Protocol Under Scrutiny

Amid the tragedy, the practices of Sacred Journey Inc. and the involvement of Tribal Social Services have come under scrutiny. At a legislative hearing, it was confirmed that Emily was placed in the group home’s care by tribal authorities.

As the investigation unfolds, the community continues to seek justice for Emily and answers to the tragic circumstances that led to her death.

As this story is developing, updates on the ongoing investigation will follow.
