Oregon Law Enforcement Unites in Major Retail Crime Bust

    Clackamas County, OR — May 30, 2025
In a significant effort to combat retail theft, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) led a collaborative operation involving various law enforcement agencies across Oregon and beyond. The coordinated mission took place on Friday and targeted several high-profile retail locations, including Clackamas Town Center and Clackamas Promenade.

    Operation Highlights

During the 10-hour crackdown, officers focused on individuals leaving stores who were suspected of theft and were also vigilant for those engaging in criminal activities nearby. The operation culminated in the arrest of 34 individuals on multiple charges, alongside the recovery of over $2,400 worth of stolen merchandise. Additionally, 26 outstanding warrants were cleared throughout the operation.

Among those apprehended, several had prior arrest histories related to theft in Clackamas County, with some individuals facing theft-related warrants from both Clackamas and neighboring Circuit Courts.

    Collaborative Efforts

This operation was not a standalone endeavor; it brought together patrol deputies and detectives from the CCSO along with members from various local police departments, including Molalla, Oregon City, Sandy, and West Linn. Support services were also provided by the Clackamas County Jail and Sheriff’s Office Property & Evidence Technicians, ensuring efficient processing of the numerous arrests and recovered items. Clackamas 911 (CCOM) aided the mission with mobile dispatch services for real-time coordination.

In a broader context, additional retail crime missions unfolded throughout the State of Oregon, encompassing counties such as Multnomah, Washington, Marion, Lane, Deschutes, and Jackson. Collectively, these operations resulted in 105 arrests and the recovery of over $8,000 in stolen merchandise across the state. Furthermore, 68 outstanding arrest warrants were resolved during this statewide effort.

    Funding for Ongoing Initiatives

This nationwide initiative was spearheaded by the Cook County State’s Attorney Regional Organized Crime Task Force (CCROC) based in Illinois, aimed at forging partnerships among law enforcement, legal entities, retailers, and organized retail crime associations. The mission received funding through the Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Grant Program established by Oregon Senate Bill 900 (2023), which will also assist future efforts against organized retail theft.

Since 2022, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has been proactively collaborating with local businesses and law enforcement partners to address retail theft, with more missions planned in the coming months.
