Serial Offender Arrested After Disturbing Incident at NYC Subway Station

Manhattan, NY — A 37-year-old man has been apprehended by authorities following a bizarre and distressing encounter with a female commuter at the 14th Street-Sixth Avenue subway station in Manhattan. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of June 18, involved the suspect attempting to kiss the woman’s feet and subsequently exposing himself.

    Details of the Incident

According to police reports from the New York Police Department (NYPD), the victim, a 30-year-old woman, was waiting for her train around 1 a.m. when Dexter Betancourt approached her. Initial exchanges led to the woman rejecting his advances, prompting him to take an alarming and inappropriate action by bending down in an attempt to kiss her feet.

Witness accounts and surveillance footage captured Betancourt engaging in unsettling behaviors, including licking his lips inside the station. After exposing himself to the victim, he fled the scene on a northbound L train, evading immediate capture.

    Previous Criminal Record

Betancourt’s arrest on indecent exposure charges marks another chapter in a record of troubling behavior; he has been linked to at least 10 prior arrests. These offenses include serious charges such as assault, strangulation, and forcible touching, with many of the incidents involving women.

A disturbing pattern has emerged from his past actions. In 2013, he allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old woman by throwing her to the ground, choking her, and biting her face on the Upper East Side. In another incident a year prior, he groped and assaulted a 25-year-old woman. His history of violence extended to interactions with law enforcement; he reportedly attempted to strike a female officer and physically resisted arrest while in possession of marijuana in late 2012.

    Current Status

Dexter Betancourt is currently awaiting arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court. Although details about his arrest on Tuesday remain unclear, the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit is actively investigating the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding Betancourt’s past offenses or similar encounters to come forward.

As the investigation unfolds, further updates from law enforcement are anticipated. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety in city transit systems and the need for vigilance.
